Centre for Pharmacy Postgraduate Education (CPPE) has announced the launch of its new ‘Nutrition, medicines and myths: evolution of pharmacy practice’ learning programme.
The programme aims to change perceptions of what nutrition means to pharmacy professionals, highlighting the ways it can be incorporated into their consultations.
The resources will introduce pharmacy professionals to the essential concepts of nutrition, the impact of nutrition on medicines and health and will demonstrate how informative nutrition discussions are key to holistic, person-centred care.
The learning resources are varied and include a myth-busting quiz that demystifies common misconceptions of the role of nutrients, medicines and health, as well as fact files, case studies and videos.
To help put this learning into practice, the new Record of Learning and Application will guide through the whole CPD cycle, linking into the 4 pillars of advanced practice. The aim is to support pharmacy professionals to evidence their CPD as independent reflective practitioners.
On completion of this learning programme, pharmacists should be able to describe the role of pharmacy professionals in supporting informative nutrition conversations as part of holistic, person-centred care; identify how nutrition impacts specific health and diseases; describe how the microbiome affects medicines absorption and nutrition absorption; and demonstrate how they can discuss with a person the effects of nutrition on a range of health conditions.
