The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) confirmed the increase in reimbursement price for Cetirizine 1mg/1ml oral solution sugar free from £6.49 to £11.24 for the month of August.
This follows several reports received by the Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee (PSNC) from contractors stating they were unable to obtain Cetirizine 1mg/ml oral solution sugar free (200ml) at the published Drug Tariff price of £6.49.
As per rules, a price change for generic drugs up to and including the 8th of the month takes effect for prescriptions dispensed in that same month, PSNC said. Any price change after the 8th takes place in the following month.
Therefore, any prescription for the medicine submitted for payment to the NHS Business Services Authority (NHSBSA) for August 2021 will be paid at the new price of £11.24 for 200ml, the negotiator said.
Cetirizine is an antihistamine used to relieve allergy symptoms such as watery eyes, runny nose, itching eyes/nose and sneezing.
