GPhC, NHS England launch new pharmacy technician fellowship

Pharmacy technicians working in any healthcare sector can apply for the fellowship

The General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) and NHS England are co-hosting a national pharmacy technician fellowship for the first time.

The selected candidate will have a one-year fixed-term opportunity to work across the Office of the Chief Pharmaceutical Officer at NHS England and the GPhC.

Applications for the fellowship will open on 22 January, and experienced pharmacy technicians from any healthcare sector are eligible to apply.

Chief Pharmacy Officer at the GPhC, Roz Gittins, said: “We are looking for an individual who is ready to work in a new way, providing professional leadership and advice relating to where pharmacy technicians can add value to national healthcare priorities.”

Liz Fidler, senior professional advisor pharmacy technician practice at the Office of the Chief Pharmaceutical Officer at NHS England, emphasised the unique nature of the fellowship.

“The fellowship provides a unique opportunity for an experienced pharmacy technician to work across organisations and support key projects, enabling pharmacy technician professional practice to develop further and boost patients’ access to clinical services.

"Applications are welcome from pharmacy technicians working in any healthcare sector. As well as your knowledge, experience and skills, your attitude to embracing what a unique fellowship like this can offer will be integral to the recruitment process,” she added.

The GPhC and NHS England will co-host a webinar on Tuesday 21 January from 19:00-19:45 to provide more details and answer any questions about the fellowship.
